Chiropractic Treatment at Optimum

As musculo-skeletal (MSK) practitioners, chiropractors provide qualified, effective treatment to promote health, alleviate pain and improve your quality of life. Chiropractors complete at least 7 years of post-secondary education to become a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC). Individuals who wish to become a chiropractor must complete a minimum of three years of post-secondary education, focusing on organic chemistry, biology and social sciences before applying to an accredited chiropractic college for a further four years of study. Chiropractic degree programs average at 4,500 hours which is comparable, if not greater than the amount of hours required by medical students.  The College of Chiropractors of BC requires that all licensed chiropractors complete 40 hours of continuing education every 2 years to maintain their expertise and keep them on top of new developments in the healthcare environment.

The majority of the over 4 million Canadians that visit a Chiropractor every year do so because of back pain or neck pain.  However, Chiropractic treatment is very effective for all types of muscul-oskeletal problems (muscles, joints, ligaments, tendons, etc).  At Optimum, our Chiropractic Doctors utilize a wide range of treatment methods including manual therapy joint procedures (spinal manipulation, Activator method), soft tissue injury techniques (Active Release Techniques, Graston Technique), Neuro-proprioceptive taping (Kinesiology Tape), electrotherapeutic modalities and specific rehabilitation exercises. Spinal manipulative therapy (also known as an adjustment) is a non-invasive, manual procedure that utilizes the highly refined skills developed through four years of intensive chiropractic education. An adjustment is a carefully controlled and precise movement delivered by a skilled practitioner to dysfunctional joints, restoring proper joint motion and enhancing joint function.
